Standing position increases importance to Marksmanship Championship

The Cadet Marksmanship Championship Series has evolved! With the vision of having a challenging and competitive sports program that is innovative, relevant and accessible to all Cadets, the next National Marksmanship Championship in 2012 will include several changes.
All firing will take the form of team matches, that is, the five members of the team will fire at the same time with the adult coach to help them.
The results obtained during the standing-position matches will be progressively introduced into the calculation to determine the best teams and the best individual marksmen.;Also, an extra day will be added to the championship!
A progressive approach to the standing shoot has been added as well. The value of firing from the standing position will be one-ninth during the 2012 championship, two-ninths in 2013, and finally one-third beginning with the 2014 championship.
The National Cadet Marksmanship Championship will see each team being provided two replacement rifles and adjustable butt plates per rifle. As well, all five Cadets of a team will fire at the same time with the adult coach monitoring their marksman on the range as well as outside. Each Cadet will fire seven relays in standing position (10 diagrams per relay) and seven relays in prone position (two targets of 10 diagrams per relay).
If that was not exciting enough, the rewards certainly are!
Medals (gold/silver/bronze) will be awarded to the competitors from the provinces obtaining the best cumulative score in the prone position and in the standing position.
Medals will be awarded to the teams (unit/composite) obtaining the best cumulative score in the prone position and in the standing position.
The Tremblay (junior) and Vamplew (open) trophies will be awarded to the Cadets obtaining the best cumulative score in the prone position and in the standing position.
Prizes will be awarded to the best individual marksmen in each category in the standing position as well as to those in the prone position.
The Georges V, offered by the Army Cadet League, will be awarded to the unit team composed of Army Cadets obtaining the best cumulative score in the prone position and in the standing position. Prizes offered by the Leagues will be awarded to the best individual marksmen by element obtaining the best cumulative score in the prone position and in the standing position.
These changes provide Cadets with the opportunity for an increased challenge, a progressive path to achievement, and allows our program to remain a relevant, credible and proactive youth development organization, offering the program of choice for Canada’s youth.
The implementation of these changes at the zone and provincial levels will be left to the direction of the Regional Cadet Support Units (RCSUs).
